Fitz’s
Restored
     Facade

* Named after the original owner, the Fred Martin Building was built in 1917

* Sheboygan County news called the building a strikingly attractive building

that served as an ornament of Broadway and a credit to the city

     during the construction.

* Martin had a hardware and tinsmithing business and shared the building

    with the Falls Post Office.

* Martin also equipped the basement with four up-to-date tournament bowling lanes and the second floor with a club

and lodge rooms. These rooms were leased by Falls Motor Corp. as a club room and place of recreation for its

employees. This area had features such as, a reading room,

billiard room, meeting room, amusement hall, dining room,

                                                                                     and kitchen.

*Although the lanes in the basement are no longer in use,

many patrons of The Other Place have fond memories of

                                                                                     bowling or setting pins.

* 1934- early 1940s - The building was the home of Steimle
Tavern and the second floor was turned into professional
offices and later 4 residential apartments.

* 1946 - The Falls Post Office relocated and the right side
of the building was converted into Deeley’s Men’s Wear
which served Sheboygan Falls for over 50 years.

* Early 1940s  1980 – Fitz’s Tavern relocated from
118 Pine St.  and was owned by Arthur Fitzpatrick
 (Picture shown on left)

* 1980 - The building was bought by Robert A. Koene Sr.
from the son of Fitzpatrick, Lyle Fitzpatrick and converted
into The Other Place.  Since Koene owned another tavern
in Falls this seemed like a fitting name.
* In 1990 the building was restored to its original facade by removing the glass bricks and replacing them with glass windows.  This was done to give the building a more historically accurate look.  The restoration is based on the 1938 photograph of the building shown above.

* At this same time the tavern/restaurant also changed the name to The Other Place Pub & Eatery in order to emphasize the diverse offerings such as the Friday fish specials, the extensive menu, as well as the hosting and catering of banquets, baby and bridal showers, stag and birthday parties.

* 2005- The former Deeley’s Men’s Wear store was converted into our dining area after being vacant for over 20 years.  This addition, which utilizes the original tin ceilings and hardwood floor creates a dining experience that adds to the historic charm of the building.
